Lacock

Lacock is a National Trust property which includes an abbey, Medieval Cloisters, grounds and the Fox Talbot Museum - not to mention the village itself. We visited it after Avebury. Apparently its recent claim to fame is that the Abbey or Cloisters were used as locations for a Harry Potter film.

A day trip to Brighton from London on Monday, September 7, 2009 - another London Walks "excursion day." This one was also led by Simon (who led the Cambridge day out). Simon lives in Brighton, and has strong opinions on certain local issues. We took the train from Victoria.

Avebury

Avebury, with its stone circle and "henge," is at the center of a World Heritage Site. The stone circles date from 2600 BC. We went to Avebury on Saturday, September 12, 2009, with London Walks on an excursion day which also included Lacock.

Milford Sound

A day trip by coach from Queenstown took us to Milford Sound, with a stop at some amazing rainforest on the way. It's a shame that the word "awesome" has been so overused and devalued, because that's the most appropriate adjective for Milford Sound. I didn't get photos of the rainforest because I didn't take my umbrella with me when we got off the coach there and my camera was going to get too wet.

The first city we visited in New Zealand. It has lovely parks and is full of art and life. One free day there was a treat, but hardly enough! The Antarctic Centre is well worth a visit.

After the children's service at church, we gathered at Andrea and Dennis' house for some good food and a gift exchange. Four generations were there, but as always it's mostly about the kids.

Swearing-in

On October 24, 2007, in the Webb Building Atrium: Arlene "Sam" Dykstra is sworn in as Denver's Deputy City Attorney and David Fine is sworn in as the City Attorney. In some places this would be an inauguration. Here it's called a "swearing-in."
