Lions, and tigers, and bears! Oh, my!!

Located near Keenesburg, Colorado (30 miles NE ofDenver), the Wild Animal Sanctuary is one of the largest and oldest sanctuaries in the US. Most of the animals living there were confiscated by law enforcement agencies after being found being kept illegally in homes, basements, garages, barns and some really terrible places. A couple of dozen lions were sent to the Sanctuary from zoos that had been outlawed in Bolivia.

There are lions, and tigers, and bears. Leopards, wolves, and a few other species. The animals roam freely in wide open spaces, and visitors can see them from a mile long elevated walkway. Close to the entrance is an area where newly-received animals are kept until they are acclimated to the sanctuary.

It's a fantastic place. I haven't even mentioned the lion house. I went there with a friend on July 12, 2012, and plan to return. More information: www.wildanimalsanctuary.org
